Washington D.C. (July 22nd, 2026) – Today, Gentry Collins, CEO of the American Free Enterprise Chamber of Commerce (AmFree Chamber) issued the following statement on Lina Khan’s appointment as chair of the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Board:
“The chill blowing through New York City’s business climate just reached gale-force strength. The heartbeat of America’s financial capital is now in the hands of far left ideologues who have consistently demonstrated hostility toward free enterprise and the economic system that made New York the world’s premier center of commerce and our country the envy of the world. As chair of the Federal Trade Commission, Khan pursued a punitive regulatory agenda that chilled investment, discouraged innovation, and created uncertainty for businesses across the country. Now she has been given a new platform to advance that same agenda in the Big Apple. Make no mistake, the American Free Enterprise system is under attack by extremists who seek a government takeover of the economy, a redistribution of wealth, and a full throated assault on American Exceptionalism that has made our nation the greatest in history. Khan, Zohran Mamdani, and those who share their vision are intent on replacing the democratic principles that built American prosperity with an expansive European-style government model that punishes success, discourages investment, and stifles innovation. If there was ever a clarion call for New York’s business community to stand together and fight for free enterprise, economic growth, and the American Dream, this is it.”
