A strong trucking industry is indispensable to a vibrant American economy—and both are strengthened by this common-sense idea

Washington, D.C. (July 31st, 2026) – Today, the American Free Enterprise Chamber of Commerce (AmFree Chamber) praised the Trump Administration’s “Freedom Haulers Initiative” streamlining the commercial driver’s license (CDL) process for veterans with heavy vehicle experience gained during military service:

“AmFree Chamber strongly supports the Freedom Haulers Initiative as a powerful step to strengthen the trucking industry that moves the goods and commerce powering our economy every day,” said Rob Engstrom, President of AmFree Chamber. “Putting qualified veterans behind the wheel enhances highway safety, honors our nation’s heroes, and reinforces the link between national service and private-sector opportunity. A strong trucking industry is indispensable to a vibrant American economy—and both are strengthened by this common-sense idea.”

“The trucking industry stands with our veterans who have bravely taken an oath to defend our country at all costs,” added Mark Colson, CEO of the Alabama Trucking Association and member of AmFree Chamber’s Advisory Council. “We have a rich history of welcoming veterans to all job sectors of our industry, and the Freedom Haulers initiative led by President Trump and Secretary Duffy will drastically improve the ability of these heroes of the battlefield to transition to heroes of the highway. American truckers have had enough of the bad headlines of illegal operators harming the reputation of this proud industry and creating a serious threat to highway safety. Freedom Haulers is yet another initiative by the Trump administration that will help lead to a Trucking Resurgence in the U.S.A.”
